Such is one's lot in life

Tonight was the last American Idol where the judges will choose who goes on. Contestant's fate lies in the hands of these judges. That sounds depressing, does it have to be so?

The notion of destiny, fate, will of a higher power is nothing new. I do not fail to see the appeal, acceptance on faith is easier done than acceptance on reason. Reason will imply there was control and that a different outcome could have been achieved had circumstances been different. Reason will also lead to strong bouts with self doubt, no matter how great your resolve.

Rather than propose to you that one way is better or right, I'll put that question to you. After all, my words are meaningless in the face of your beliefs. Which would you rather have, control or acceptance in fate?
