This thursday I went with EDL to see Blues Traveler. Knoxville does have it's perks, among them loads of free
summer and
fall concerts. Now we do get a fair number of quality acts, but having Blues Traveler headline is still something special. I was glad to see Knoxville treat the band with the hoards of fans they deserve. After the band had played both sets and said good night, the crowd didn't move and cheered for an encore. After the encore, the crowd didn't move and cheered for another encore. John Popper came back to the stage, said to the crowd, "Man, this never happens! You guys are the best fucking crowd, do you know that?" We went wild, the band played a second encore, then stayed around to sign autographs for everyone.
I took the camera, hoping to get some great photos of the band, but even I didn't foresee the crowd that would gather. It had been raining all day, a surefire way to keep the hoards at home, but not in Knoxville. So here is the best of the shots I took, mostly from far away trying to hold steady at max zoom.

Knoxville is one of the best towns I've lived in for local music. I think we act as a staging area, young bands play the local bars, then move to Nashville or Atlanta. My favorite local band right now would be the
cohorts, who play a mix of blues, funk and rock both covers and original. The first night I saw them, they ended the show on rapper's delight and brought up a band friend to freestyle - blew me the fuck away. (The friend is now part of the band)
Last time I saw them was in a
new bar in the downtown area. The bar was okay (great burgers), and the setting was small. I didn't have my camera with me, so I used EDL's, which has that annoying date feature set. Arg. Lighting was bad and since I wasn't familiar with the quirks of her camera, most shots didn't come out, but here are the few that did.

Mike, did you get the sad news from Jonathan? He has decided to go off to school in Florida in the Spring. So the Cohorts shows are in limited supply! Speaking of that, I'm going to see them at The Prince on Friday night. Hope you can make it! :)

Typically Spring semester starts in January, so my guess is that the shows are in VERY limited supply. I'm so sad. :(
