Disney Stole my Youth

I started to worry this week. After my last post I thought it would be easy for the next one, but then there was no interesting news happening.

And then Google saved me.

First story was google's cache is fair use. That should have been obvious to everyone, but in these times of the MPAA/RIAA every little bit helps. There is also new information on Google's image of a flying car, though it's not conclusive. Yahoo seems to be upset it doesn't have a flying car.

I was surprised to see the new credit card rules be treated as a bad thing. Simply put, credit card companies now must make the minium payment high enough it will actually pay off the card. Is there anger at these companies that targeted low income households to lock them into a debt cycle forever? No, the outrage is the government has raised your credit card payments and now these families might not be able to make the minuim payment.

Sex before a stressful event keeps you calm. How the hell do you get a job to research things like this?

Our congressmen are getting into the digital age, finally. They are blogging, and they have ipods. This is not good for the MPAA/RIAA because our congressmen are no longer ignorant to what is really going on. And what's going on? You can't make a copy, but they can. Yes, the MPAA has made copies of the movie This Film Not Yet Rated and gave them to their employees because it was "about them." Of course, we still have idiots out there, like those selling fully loaded ipods on ebay.

The government wasn't all peachy this week. Alaska denied access to election records of a Diebold machine because the format is proprietary. That right, no lookey at the machine to see if it works right. Games in Utah are just as bad as pornography, but this is Utah so who didn't see that coming?

Some cool things happening: Family Guy's Stewie will get his own talk show. Flickr's open api has spawned a number of cool things, including a game that's sucked more of my time than I'll admit to. You can now get Stanford classes on your ipod, make an ipod and official back to school needed item.

Last, what the fuck is going on at Disney? No I don't mean the $7 Billions Pixar buyout, I mean 10 year old girls singing Devo songs. Yes, the fear of missing out on the kidz bop craze must be too much so they made a "dev2.0" band of kids singing the devo lyrics. Scott Jennings said it best, "When Disney repackages the music you listened to as a sullen teenager in a perky kid-friendly brand, you know you’re REALLY old. This is NOT my beautiful house."
