Who the hell is Stanislaw Lem?

No, this isn't a post with a catchy title, designed to suck the reader into learning about Stanislaw Lem.  It's the actual question, who the hell is this guy?

Wikipedia: Stanislaw Lem was a Polish science fiction, philosophical, and satirical writer.  Translations of his works are difficult; Michael Kandel's translations into English have been generally praised as capturing the spirit of the original.

Okay, explains why I've never heard of him.  So why have I started caring?  Well, I blame Tish.  She posted a link to http://www.myheritage.com - a site that specializes in face recognition.  After begin led to give up your email address and read an ad or two, you will get the option of seeing what celebrities you look like.  Apparently, my best match is a obscure polish sci-fi author.

Well, that's what I get for playing by the rules.  Instead of using a clear photo of my face, let's mix things up a bit and use my "mike in shadow" photo.

Jim Morrison; looks like the site is working now, much better.  Actually, the site is buggy and the interface a slow moving dinosaur - I'd hold off on signing up for any of the pay genealogy services for a while.  It was so buggy I couldn't make the images on the site in this post, and instead had to use Photoshop and take screen shots.
