Design for the talent impaired

tagged: design ajax

Some of us are great at creating website designs with nothing more the Photoshop and a handy CSS reference sheet.  Most of us are not.  If you find yourself needing a new look for your site, and the designer you captured escaped from the basement, here are three sites I use (until I catch and re-cage the designer):

Open Source Web Design - OSWD is a site kind designers use to give away great designs.  ViNull.com uses a design from there.  This is where I start, and with over 2,000 designs - most XHTML 1.0 - I've never left without what I needed.

Kuler - This is an Adobe site for choosing colors.  The beauty of the site is that when you click "Create" you can choose a "Rule" such as Triad, then drag around the primary color while Kuler select colors to pair with it based on the rule.  If you get to lost or can't decide, you can also browser color sets others have choose (which include community ratings).

AjaxLoad - More aimed at programmers, AjaxLoad is a great site for generating those Ajax "Loading" images popping up everywhere.  Just select the shape of image and colors, and click generate.

Those are my top three, but there are many more sites out there.  If you've found a good site that helps the design impaired, I want to know!
