For the impatient, or those who trust my word completely, I highly recommend reading Ignore Everybody by Hugh MacLeod.
Still reading?
Okay – Hugh MacLeod is one of those marketing Web 2.0 bloggers. He entered the world of internet fame with his post “how to be creative” (and that’s how I found him). He is an artist, whose chosen medium is drawing on the back of business cards. He gives away these for free, and you can even put them on the back of your business cards. Some of my favorites touch on agile, my ego, inspiration, Microsoft, Apple love, politics, and sex. you can check out many others (warning, this link will waste one or more hours of your day) here .
The book is really a distilled and edited version of Hugh’s blog posts of the years, and that is not a negative. The points are concise and well supported, reflecting how Hugh has refined his thoughts over the years. The book is also part auto-biographical, as Hugh explains his career and events that shaped his success. It is not a long or difficult read, but you will find your self stopping to ponder the words constantly.
A great video on some of the points covered in the book is on YouTube, and embedded below. Hugh didn’t have a hand in making this video, except for providing the content that inspired it.
